Facebook Friends
As a proactive measure in the social networking environment, our teachers have been asked to “unfriend” students on Facebook.  We feel student-teacher communication through this medium in inappropriate. We appreciate your support with this!

Rock Star Reading Program
Our "Read Like a Rock Star" PTA program is well underway!! This is an incentive-based  program, in which kids can earn some "random rock rewards" and also enter drawings to get some really fun prizes!  We really want to get kids excited about reading this year!  Hopefully, your students have had their "contract" signed and have received a paper guitar to decorate. Watch for these awesome guitars in the halls! We have some fun, creative kids!
This program is funded entirely by private donations!  We are so lucky to have such great sponsors and want to continue thanking them for their AMAZING support!

Treasure Cove
Watch for our Treasure Cove, which is the fun student store we had last year.  This first fun event is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 24.  We can’t wait!

Meet The Masters
The PTA is excited to continue with the Meet the Masters art program for the 2010-2011 school year.  We will introduce four new artists in Friday assemblies and follow up with classroom art projects.  We felt the program last year was very successful, worthwhile, and the students loved it!  The master artists we will learn about are Pablo Picasso, Winslow Homer, Frida Kahlo and M.C. Escher. We will learn about a new artist in the months of October, November, February and May.
We are looking for 1 or 2 volunteers for each classroom to teach the students about the artists and their differing art styles.  The volunteers will be trained in a fun and easy 45 minute training per artist.  The classroom time is about 1 hour per artist.  The total time commitment for the year is about 2 hours per artist or 8 hours for the year.  This is not a huge time commitment and the feedback from the students is so positive.  If you think you can spare 8 hours for your child’s classroom, please contact me by email lisabarney@skyviewmail.com.

Reflections Art Program

2010-2011 Reflections Theme "Together We Can . . ."

For 40 years the National PTA Reflections program has encouraged students across the nation and in American Schools overseas to explore their talents through the Arts.

Reflections is an annual program that encourages students' artistic talents. For more than 30 years, the Reflections program has invited children (preschool-grade 12) to create and submit works of art.

Every year in Utah we have about 60,000 students enter the Reflections program. We have expanded the original categories of Music, Photography, Visual Arts and Literature to include 4 additional categories, including Dance, Theatre, 3D and Film and Video.

This is a wonderful program for our students. The excitement and enthusiasm that the Reflections arts recognition program generates for children, parents, schools, and communities is unmatched.
